5 winners of Japanese Gulch Photo Contest

Zoe Zitzka won first place in the Japanese Gulch Photo Contest for her photo titled “Twilight” of a rushing stream in the gulch.

The winners of the Japanese Gulch Group contest were announced on Dec. 14. More than 75 photographs were entered by 22 contestants.

David Welton won second place, third place went to Don Saul, Michael Coppola won fourth place and the Best of Biking award went to Matt Welborn.

Entries included scenes of hikers in the snow, bikers racing through the trees, dogs exploring their surroundings, a cement wall painted with graffiti, a mossy branch arching over a path and an owl perched high in a tree.

“Thank you to everyone who participated,” said Kristin Kohorst, who helped organize the contest. “We hope that you enjoyed the experience.”

The contest was sponsored by Greg Chapdeliene, He Said She Said, Full Speed Ahead, Anywhere But Here Travel, Jersey Mike's, Mukilteo Chocolate Co. and Nikki Closser Photography.

Prizes included movie passes, REI gift card, biking or camping gear, one free ice cream cone per month for a year, and a trophy filled with international chocolates.
