Artist Maura Donegan featured at Lynnwood Library Art Gallery
Fiber Art Embroidery by Irish artist Maura Donegan is featured at the Lynnwood Library Gallery through Sept. 4.
Working with silk organza, tulle, rayon and metallic thread, Maura creates dramatic monochromatic lace cloth grids where she embroiders words, whose sounds and meanings evoke memories, both happy and sad.
Reminiscent of crosswords, answers emerge from hidden clues.
Maura has degrees in design, embroidery, quilting and fiber art, having studied in Ireland, England and, most recently, the University of Washington.
Like her mother, grandmother, great grandmother and the women before them who stitched for pleasure and comfort, she carries on that tradition in her works with patience, reflection and repetition.
A reception for the artist will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug.19.
