Beacon presents the Domestic Violence Awareness Project

Feb 05, 2015

Domestic violence no doubt has been a societal plague since the beginning of civilization. For the last 50 years, efforts to bring the issue out of the shadows, and to provide help for those who are victims, has steadily climbed.

In the few past years, perhaps in part due to tragic incidents involving celebrities, awareness of DV has exploded.

Fortunately, people are more willing to discuss the problem. Victims who silently suffered before are seeking help. Abusers who previously managed to avoid repercussions instead are facing justice.

Where there was little or no help before, individuals and agencies are providing assistance to free victims from abusive relationships, give them shelter, and help them start new lives.

Beacon Publishing, through its three community newspapers, presents the Domestic Violence Awareness Project, a series of articles that focus on the issue and discuss efforts to eradicate it.

We’re also meeting with business owners to discuss ways they can help, such as providing drop points for needed items at Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.

Businesses also are stepping up by sponsoring our project. Sponsors are published in this paper alongside the series, with all profits going to DVS.

Domestic violence is a scourge. Through this project, we hope we can help speed up that day when it exists no more.
