The new owner of Mukilteo’s only bookstore has changed its name to Snips and Snails and Tall Tales, in a nod to the popular nursery rhyme “What Are Little Boys Made Of?"

Its grand opening was July 1.

The bookstore, formerly Mukilteo Booksellers, at 619 4th St. in the Lincoln Courtyard, has also changed its focus to children’s books and activities. However, the store also still carries much of its usual selection of new and used books.

The store also has puzzles, puppets, games and music for kids.

“It’s not just a bookstore anymore,” said owner Joni Hardwick. “It’s going to be bursting with activity.”

The bookstore hosts children’s activities include story time, puppet theater and arts and crafts. During story time on July 7, kids were invited to dress up in traditional Japanese costumes – ninjas for boys and yukatas (summer kimonos) for girls.

There are also events for adults – from book clubs and local author readings, to board game nights and crafts, such as scrapbooking.

Hardwick and staff have also been slowly remodeling the bookstore so that it is more open and inviting, colorful and "whimsical."
