Both levy, bond approved by voters | School brief

School district voters have approved both the renewal of an Educational Maintenance and Operations Levy and a construction bond proposal. The final results were certified on Tuesday.

Support for the levy was at 66.84 percent on Tuesday of those who voted while support for the bond was at 63.88 percent. The levy needed a simple majority to pass and the bond needed a 60-percent supermajority.

As both measures passed, the school district will continue to have an operations levy in place through the end of 2018 and will begin construction on a number of facility improvements.

A new elementary school to be built south of Lake Stickney, an early-learning kindergarten center will be built on the campus of Fairmount Elementary, the gymnasium building at Olympic View will be modernized, a wireless network will be installed in all school buildings, and many other improvements will be done.
