Cascade Symphony presents 'Tchaikovsky'
The January 2014 concert, “Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto" will take place on at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, in the Edmonds Center for the Arts.
The concert will feature violinist Alexander Velinzon performing the title work. Velinzon is former assistant concertmast of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and has been a featured soloist with many international orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, and numerous others.
The program also includes "Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks" by Richard Strauss, the "Overture to Candide" by Leonard Bernstein and Bach’s "Fantasia and Fugue in C Minor" transcribed by Edward Elgar. A pre-concert lecture will be given at 6:30 p.m. by KING-FM’s Dave Beck.
Due to popular demand, this concert is sold out. Anyone wishing to obtain tickets is encouraged to contact the Edmonds Center for the Arts on the day of the concert to see if any tickets have been returned.
CSO's annual Children's Concert, “Paddington Bear's First Concert” will be presented on Saturday, Feb. 22, and will feature Dave Dolacky in a repeat performance as narrator.
It will also introduce the musical talent of a young Rising Star. (Please note that tickets for the Children's Concert are not included in the Season Ticket price). At this concert, the orchestra will collect donations of non-perishable food items to distribute to the two Edmonds food banks.
On March 17, the orchestra will present "Beethoven's Fourth", featuring Demarre Mcgill, flute soloist in the "Flute Concerto in D minor" by Carl Reinecke. The program will also include the "Polonaise Op. 49 In Memory of Pushkin" by Liadov and the "Masquerade Suite" by Khachaturian.
The CSO annual Ensemble Concert, featuring small ensembles composed of members of the symphony will take place at 3 p.m. on April 13 at the Edmonds United Methodist Church. Tickets for the ensemble concert (not included in Season Ticket) are $15 for General Admission and $10 for Children 12 and under.
The season will conclude on May 12 with "Rachmaninoff" featuring Natalya Ageyeva in a performance of Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 3." Wagner's "Overture to the Opera Rienzi" and the "Classical Symphony" by Prokofieff will complete the program.
Since CSO concerts are routinely selling out, audience members who wish to attend these upcoming concerts and do not have season tickets are encouraged to get tickets early while they are still available.
