Celebrate Mardi Gras at Edmonds Lutheran Church

Feb 27, 2014

ELC will put a little jazz into its schedule when it hosts a "Mardi Gras Sunday Service" at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 2.

The service will feature the Uptown, Lowdown, Dixieland Jazz ensemble playing traditional New Orleans-style jazz during the service, as well as accompanying familiar hymns.

Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday (or Shrove Tuesday), referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which traditionally begins on Ash Wednesday.

Many European countries fatten up with pancakes lathered in butter and sugar for Mardi Gras.

Edmonds Lutheran will adopt a New Orleans atmosphere on the Sunday before Lent at the 10:30 service, accompanied by a traditional "Fat Tuesday" Pancake Breakfast that will go from 9:30 a.m. until noon

Everything is family-friendly, and everyone is welcome.
