City hiring after 2 directors resignPositions in parks, police, maintenance, customer service also open
City Councilmembers and Mayor Jennifer Gregerson praised the work of Chris Phillips, who recently resigned as the city’s Management Services Director, during a council meeting Monday, Feb. 13.
“I’m really thankful for all of the good work you’ve done here,” Gregerson said. “Certainly, you’ve made that impact felt in Public Works in the last few months, but really just over the entire time we’ve partnered together and teamed to try to make the city a better place.”
Phillips, who earned a monthly salary of $9,941, started with the city on Oct. 7, 2014. His last day was Feb. 14.
“Your asset management program is excellent,” Councilmember Christine Cooke said of Phillips. “I think we’ve gained a lot from having you with us. I’m glad you’ll be somewhere closer to home because I know you’ve had a heck of a drive.”
Phillips accepted the Director of Community and Economic Development position at the city of Mount Vernon, which is closer to his home in Anacortes, Gregerson said.
Patricia Love, Mukilteo’s Director of Community Development, is covering Phillips’ vacated position until the city hires a full-time replacement.
The job has been posted at www.governmentjobs.com/careers/mukilteo along with several other open positions. It pays between $10,000 and $11,344.58 per month and closes March 1.
Recreation and Cultural Services Director Jennifer Berner has also resigned. Her last day was Feb. 3.
Berner, who earned a monthly salary of $8,704.86, started with the city on Aug. 20, 2007.
That position has yet to be posted, though Human Services Manager Julie Good said she expects it will be advertised in the next two weeks and remain open for three to four weeks.
Good said the monthly salary range for that position would be between $104,458 and $126,969.
While no one is filling in for Berner directly, Good said Administrative Support Coordinator Dale Dahl and Recreation Coordinator Leif Ellsworth are continuing their oversight and relevant duties.
For each position, Good said the ideal candidates would have a master’s degree and several years of municipal experience in their respective fields – 10 years for the Management Services Director and seven years for the Recreation and Cultural Services Director.
Applications will be reviewed by Good and Gregerson, and Gregerson would make final hiring decisions, Good said.
Candidates will participate in a multi-panel interview process, including city staff, Mukilteo residents, outside experts and City Council members, she said.
Other open positions with the city include a temporary maintenance assistant position that pays between $15.18 and $15.93 hourly, a temporary parks assistant position that pays between $15.18 and $15.93 hourly, a part-time customer service clerk position that pays between $12.85 and $15.62 hourly, and a police officer position that pays between $5,835.18 and $6,622.35 monthly.
