County spray pad opens May 26, pool to open June 23
The popular spray feature at Willis Tucker Community Park will open Saturday, May 26, in time for Memorial Day weekend. McCollum Park Pool will open at noon on Saturday, June 23, with swimming lessons beginning the following Monday, June 25.
Sun shades installed on the edge of Willis Tucker’s free spray feature makes a comfortable area for parents to lay out a picnic lunch or simply sit back and relax while keeping an eye on their youngsters. The sun shade shelter adjacent to the south side of the pad may be reserved on a four-hour basis at www.snocoparks.org.
Willis Tucker, located at 6705 Puget Park Dr., Snohomish, also includes three off-leash dog areas, an outdoor amphitheatre, walking trails, two baseball fields, two covered picnic shelters and serves as the Parks Department’s administration headquarters.
The popular outdoor pool at McCollum Park, located at 600 128th S.E., Everett, has been serving Snohomish County since 1970 and to date has taught more than 80,000 people how to swim. The pool, with a water slide, offers swimming lessons, pool rentals, open swims and a summer league swim team through Sept. 3.
Various classes and lessons offer opportunities to focus on swimming for fun, fitness and safety. Very customized learn-to-swim programs include progressive aqua-tot, preschool and youth classes. Designed to be the most progressive program possible, it is built on components of various programs such as Swim America, American Red Cross, YMCA, Aquatic Readiness and others, as well as more than 50 years of cumulative knowledge and experience among the staff at McCollum Pool.
The 2012 fees for open swim, swim lessons, swim team, season passes, pool rentals and more have been reduced in some cases by nearly 20 percent. Many new programs have been added, including four-week learn-to-swim sessions, which meet two times per week for increased family flexibility.
