ECA presents Kidstock!, a free arts celebration for families

Jan 31, 2014

On Saturday, Feb. 8, ECA proudly presents Kidstock!, a free, annual family event that features musical performances, theater, arts education workshops, and activities for kids.

Bring the whole family and join in for a day of creativity and fun. The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Kidstock! 2014 is sponsored by The Edmonds Arts Commission, King’s Schools, Union Bank, The Rotary Club of Edmonds and the Barclay Shelton Dance Centre.

Now in its 2nd year, Kidstock! focuses on engaging children and families in diverse and exciting arts experiences.

The ECA Main Stage will host Emmy award-winning Tim Noah; “kindie” rockers The Not-Its!; Guinness World Record-holding juggler Alex Zerbe; and Aaron Nigel Smith, whose arts initiative FUNdamentals of Music and Movement is now the program of choice for more than 100 early education centers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Boston. (See full performance schedule below.)

Rock out in the theater, but don’t forget to join in on the 2nd floor for live theater performances and arts education activities throughout the day.

ECA’s Center Classroom will host Book-It Repertory Theatre’s “The Phantom Tollbooth” at 10 a.m., followed by a “Themes in Motion” workshop where kids will use their voices, bodies and imaginations to explore the themes of Norton Juster’s classic book.

Thistle Theatre will present “Mrs. Periwinkle and Possum,” an interactive puppet play for younger children, at 1 p.m.

Other Kidstock! activities will include bouncy houses, face-painting, a Seattle Shakespeare Company costume photo booth, and a design station to create the official button for Kidstock! 2015. Food concessions, family restrooms and stroller checking will be available.

In addition to Kidstock!, programs for kids and families at Edmonds Center for the Arts include a new Family Series, launching at 11 a.m. on April 12 with a special performance by acclaimed trio Recess Monkey.

For the second year, ECA will also organize four week-long Summer Arts Enrichment Camps in partnership with local and national arts organizations through July and August 2014.

State legislation is needed to give local governments the ability to create publicly funded Cultural Access funds.

These funds would be used to enable students, families and individuals to attend, participate and experience cultural organizations – including free arts opportunities for families and young people like Kidstock!
