Everett Chorale performs annual holiday concert
The Everett Chorale will kick off its 48th season with its annual holiday concert “Here We Come A-Wassailing” at the Everett Performing Arts Center.
The 80-voice community choir, directed by Lee Mathews, will give two performances, first at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, and then at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8.
The chorale will be joined by two Everett hand bell choirs from First Presbyterian Church and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
The first half of the program will feature English carols, such as “Once in Royal David’s City” and “What Child Is This,” along with contemporary anthems by John Rutter and David Willcocks in the style of a traditional Lessons and Carol service.
The audience will be encouraged to participate in singing several carols, along with a hand bell and choir performance.
After an intermission, the chorale will perform a number of carols, such as “Deck the Hall” and “The Holly and the Ivy,” reminiscent of an Old English dinner complete with drinking wassail and rushing to the door to listen to carolers sharing their good cheer.
The Everett Chorale provide performances of choral music for the cultural growth and entertainment of singers and audiences throughout Snohomish County and surrounding areas.
“Here We Come A-Wassailing” is the first of three subscription concerts during the 2013-2014 season “At Home and Abroad.”
