Golfers donate $5,000 to wounded warriors
Local veterans played in a golf tournament on July 4 at the Harbour Pointe Golf Club, where they are members and board members, to raise awareness and funds for the non-profit Heartbeat – Serving Wounded Warriors.
On July 19, the veterans donated nearly $5,000 to Heartbeat. Last year, they donated $1,700.
“In times when money is really tight, these guys really stepped up to the plate,” said Ron Monaco, who spearheaded the tournament.
Players from the tournament presented a check for $4,898 to Janice Buckley, founder and president of Heartbeat, on the first tee at the golf club.
In return, Buckley gave them a certificate of thanks and an American Flag American Flag was that was flown over Afghanistan by the 82nd Airbourne.
“It’s amazing what they have done,” she said.
