Holiday DUI patrols arrest 401 drivers in county

Jan 09, 2013

The results are in from the recent Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI enforcement campaign conducted from Nov. 21 through Jan. 1.

In Snohomish County, 401 motorists were stopped and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI), and statewide, law enforcement officers arrested 3,446 drivers for DUI.

Last year in the county, during the same time period, officers on routine and extra patrols arrested 397 drivers for DUI.

In Snohomish County, the Arlington, Bothell, Brier, Edmonds, Everett, Granite Falls, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Marysville, Mill Creek, Monroe, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo and Tulalip Police Departments, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol participated in the extra DUI patrols.

They did so with the support of the Washington State Liquor Control Board and the Snohomish County DUI & Target Zero Traffic Safety Task Force.

The extra patrols were funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

The campaign was formed on the belief that the holiday season is an important time for these patrols, given the number of seasonal festivities that often involve alcohol.
