Hovis named Rotary student of the month
The South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club has named Kamiak High School senior Mitchell Hovis its Student of the Month for April.
Hovis, an AP scholar with honors, boasts a 3.95 GPA and is ranked 23rd out of 482 students at Kamiak. He is a member of National Honor Society, as well as the KING Aquatic Club. He has been involved with USA Swimming since 2000.
Hovis has been a Scholastic All American Athlete and a North American Challenge Cup team member. He was a national qualifier and top-three finisher at USA Swimming’s Winter Junior Nationals.
Hovis was College Swimming’s No. 1 recruit for the State of Washington this year. He is a Division 1 swimming recruit at the University of Wyoming.
Outside of class, Hovis has enjoyed job shadowing at the Feral Cat Spay and Neuter Clinic in Lynnwood, helping to offer compassionate solutions to feline homelessness and promote animal welfare. He has also been a volunteer coach at the KING Aquatic Club, helping swimmers improve at technique clinics.
After graduation, Hovis plans on attending the University of Wyoming, where he plans on majoring in Animal Science.
