Editor, The Beacon:

Below is my response to Mayor Jennifer Gregerson regarding her comments about the "environmental challenges" of an over-water structure [“Mayor’s response: Why over water isn’t a good idea,” The Beacon, Letters, page 4, April 30]:

The Boeing pier was planned mostly "under the radar" away from public scrutiny.  My feeling is if the "partners" that made this over-water facility a reality (city of Everett, Port of Everett, Boeing, Tulalip Tribes, etc.), and got the land re-zoned for a commercial/industrial purpose, then there is recent development precedent established for an over-water structure.

The old Tank Farm pier that will be removed sits at about a 30 degree angle to the shoreline, which apparently took advantage of the shallowness of the sea floor in that area. I believe it could be expanded in width to provide most of the parking/staging area, as well as the docking facility.

Yours truly,

Emory Cole,

Former Mayor of Mukilteo
