It’s time to celebrate | Letter
Editor, The Beacon:
We did it!! We accomplished what sometimes seemed like the impossible task [“Mukilteo acquires gulch property,” The Beacon, front page, Dec. 31].
We? Who are we? We are the many people who had a hand in obtaining the Japanese Gulch.
For years, since a small group of people learned that the paths that they took their dogs for a walk or rode their mountain bikes on could be bulldozed and made into warehouses, till now, when we secured this property for ever there are countless people who helped.
The many people who have been on the Japanese Gulch Group, the government on city, county and state levels, Forterra, the people who donated to our auctions, the auction committees, the people who came to the auctions, the press and so many more!
What now? Come celebrate these accomplishments with us on Feb. 1! Join us at Rosehill Community Center, which will be transformed into an enchanted forest!
This year, we have a new theme, different food and many wonderful auction items.
Although the city has signed a purchase and sale agreement to buy the land, there is still much we can do to help. There is trail maintenance, signage, trail identification, maps, parking, working on a fish ladder, assessing and addressing environmental concerns, and so much more.
The Japanese Gulch Group will continue to help the city support and sustain these woods and, more importantly, we will advocate for you the public regarding how you want to use this land.
We would love to hear your voice as we transition our focus to the new role that the Japanese Gulch Group will play.
If you can’t be at the event, we would appreciate any auction items you can donate. You can find more information and buy tickets at www.japanesegulch.org.
If you are interested in donating an item, please write to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also help us with manpower by coming to our Trailblazers events and working in the gulch itself.
Again, thank you to all who helped make this everlasting investment in our community! You helped leave a legacy! Now it’s time to celebrate!
