Janet Still to show at Gallery NorthClay and Glass will run through the month of April.
Gallery North welcomes their April 2012 featured artist,Janet Still, a potter and glass artist well-known to the Pacific Northwest.
Her show, titled Clay and Glass, includes clay sculpture and glass works based on themes from nature.
It also includes important pieces that she has been creating over the last 12 years.
For 38 years Janet Still’s passion has been clay.
“I love the feel of it,” says Still.
Still’s clay work is done using hand building techniques; no wheel is used. Instead the pieces are constructed by creating coils and cutting slabs in various shapes to conform to her specific designs. The clay pieces are finished with high and low fire glazes or left exposed for interesting contrasts.
She also carves the clay to add texture to her work.
“I also love experimenting with glass,” She said.
The glass sculptures in the show are kiln cast glass using molds that Janet created with clay or plaster.
Still, who has been a first place award winner at the Edmonds Arts Festival, is a graduate from the University of Washington and studied under Howard Kottler, Patti Warashina, and Robert Sperry.
She is currently teaching for the City of Lynnwood and is the Co-Director of the Edmonds Sculptors Workshop.
The public is invited to meet Janet at her reception on Sunday, April 15, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Refreshments will be served. The artist will also be available to meet the public at the monthly Edmonds Art Walk on Thursday, April 19, from 5 to 8 p.m.
