3-4:30 p.m. at the Northwest Language and Cultural Center (5023 Langley Rd. in Langley). For the sixth year in a row, Whidbey Island’s Tahoma One Drop Zen Monastery welcomes the new year with a celebration led this year by Shodo Harada Roshi, Tahoma’s founder, and the abbott of the 300-year-old Sogenji temple in Okayama, Japan. This non-denominational event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments are served after the ceremony, which include ancient ceremonial traditions such as the ringing of 108 bells.
