The Mukilteo Family YMCA is celebrating Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 28, with a free community event that will help families find fun through active play and educational opportunities to improve health and well-being.

Healthy Kids Day takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Y, located at 10601 47th Pl. W. in Mukilteo. The event is free.

The day aims to encourage kids and parents to commit to keeping the body and mind active now and throughout the summer. This year the Y’s theme is “Play, Learn, Connect.”

“Every year, YMCA’s across the country put on this event on the same day to promote healthy living,” said Laurie George, of the Mukilteo Y. “That includes mind, body and spirit, so its essentially physical activity, educational opportunities and just plain fun.”

Healthy Kids Day is the nation’s largest health day for kids. The Y will feature activities to engage families in physical activity such as: family games; healthy family activities; water safety skills; dental, vision, and hearing screenings; fitness testing; nutrition information; and community information for support and help in many areas.

The day’s performance schedule is as follows:

10:30 a.m. – Kamiak Dance Team

11 a.m. – Skate Park “Flyers” Club

11:30 a.m. – School of Acrobatic and Circus Arts Youth Aerial Show

12:15 p.m. – Community Zumba Class

12:30-1:30 p.m. – Muk Island in the Pool

“We are thrilled to showcase the Seattle School of Acrobatic and Circus Arts with an aerial performance,” George said. “The performers are all 8-18 years old.”

The Y’s community fair activities include a bouncy house, dunk tank, tot time play gym, stomp rocket building, bicycle rodeo and safety check (bring your bikes!), Lego building and racing, hula hoop contest, jumping contest and more.

“We do this all in the spirit of our core values and how we feel about our Mukilteo community: honesty, respect, responsibility and caring,” George said.

“The event also showcases our three YMCA Focus areas: social responsibility, healthy living and youth development.”

The day’s sponsors include the Future of Flight, the Mukilteo Wildlife Habitat Organization, the Mukilteo Library, Bricks 4 Kidz, Mukilteo Police and Fire, the Heart Hope Institute, Campfire, Girl Scouts, Rosehill Community Center, Kamiak High School Dance Team, and the Jet City Roller Derby.
