Kamiak beats Mariner for first win | Boys prep basketball
The Kamiak boys basketball team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 17 by beating cross-town rival Mariner. The final score was 55-45 for the Knights.
Kamiak led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter, adding 17 to Mariner’s 11 in the second quarter for a 27-20 lead at halftime.
Kamiak outscored the Marauders 17-11 in the third quarter, but Mariner edged the Knights 14-11 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to win the game.
Kamiak’s Tyler Nielsen led the team with 13 points, while teammate Henderson Belk scored 11. Drew Blacksmith scored five points, Coleman Grayson added four, as did Chance Lord, while Aman Hussein posted three points, along with Johnathan Lee and Faris Anas. Nate Schubert scored one point during the game.
Mariner’s Kevin Villalobos scored 11 points for the Marauders, while Andre Haghgoo and Shawn Miguel each scored nine points. Gregory Whitaker posted eight points for the team, DeRhaun Mallett added six, and Ryan Mendoza scored two points.
The Knights are now 1-1 in league and 1-3 overall this season and will host Cascade on Friday, Dec. 20 in a 7:15 p.m. game. Mariner will host Edmonds-Woodway on Friday night in another 7:15 p.m. Wesco match.
