Kiwanis honors ‘intelligent’ Mariner student
The Kiwanis Club of Mukilteo recently honored Mariner High School’s Kathleen Bravo as the January Student of the Month.
Bravo, a junior, has a 3.86 GPA, putting her class standing at 20 out of 486 students. She has taken eight honors or AP classes to date and is set to have completed 12 by graduation.
She has been awarded the Lamp of Knowledge Award in both 2012 and 2013 and was Student of the Quarter in 2011.
Bravo is a member of Mariner’s Key Club, National Honor Society, Dance Team and Island Roots. She also tutors at Fairmount Elementary and has volunteered for several events, including Harvest Fest, MLK assemblies, Boo Bash and Christmas House.
“Kathleen Bravo is a mature and scholarly student who demonstrates a love of learning,” said AP English teacher Rob Caskey. “She is a role model in the classroom by demonstrating how to conduct intelligent conversation.”
Dance teacher Anna Huber said Bravo is both intelligent and hard working – the skills of a great leader.
“As a dancer she has studied and applied herself and is advancing her skill in amazing ways,” she said. “I’m so glad to have her in the dance program.”
Key Club Adviser Scott Bayles noted that Bravo has been involved in many if not all Key Club projects so far this year.
“She is a reliable and conscientious person who cares for the people around her,” he said.
