Legend Rita Moreno comes to Edmonds Center for the Arts
Edmonds Center for the Arts (ECA) presents An Evening with Rita Moreno, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.
Recipient of a 2015 Kennedy Center Honor, Rita Moreno remains one of only nine performers ever to win all four major artistic awards: the Oscar, the Emmy, the Grammy and the Tony.
The table is set with a full course that includes some of Rita’s favorites from the American Songbook, Broadway classics (including “West Side Story,” “Sunset Boulevard,” “Master Class”), swing, jazz, selections from her new Spanish language album, Una Vez Más (produced by Emilio Estefan), and even rap.
Most recognized for her Academy-Award winning role as Anita in “West Side Story,” Rita’s career has spanned over 60 years of stage, film and television triumphs, including seminal hits such as The Electric Company on PBS and HBO’s Oz.
In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in December 2007, she was inducted into the California Hall of Fame. Rita was named the 50th recipient of SAG-AFTRA’s highest tribute—the SAG Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment.
Rita’s voice has only grown more mature with age, and her stage presence brings down the house with virtuoso performances of classic songs forever associated with her.
In advance of Rita Moreno’s performance, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, ECA will present “West Side Story” (1961) as part of a new Film Cabaret Series. Screened on ECA’s state-of-the-art digital cinema system, “West Side Story” kicks off Thursday night screenings of classic, contemporary and cult films, whose stunning cinematography and iconic musical scores were made to be experienced on the big screen.
The Jake Bergevin Quartet will provide live entertainment during a cabaret-style happy hour (6:30 p.m.) on the ECA stage, performing a jazz arrangement of the original “West Side Story” score.
Tickets to An Evening of Rita Moreno start at $34. Youth/Student $15. Tickets to “West Side Story” are $15 (cabaret + film)/$10 (film only). Purchase tickets online at www.ec4arts.org , through the ECA Box Office at 410 Fourth Ave. N, or by calling 425-275-9595.
