Letter: Call lawmakers, call for kindness
We each have the power to rekindle kindness that creates a more compassionate community ("Remembering a kinder, gentler nation," Aziz Junejo, Jan. 18). One act of kindness that will make a difference is calling or writing our representatives and senators, asking them to protect safety net programs.
Helping the hungry by supporting the SNAP program (food stamps) is kindness. Making sure all Americans have health insurance is kindness. So, do the random acts of kindness at every opportunity, but remember the big picture: We live in a representative democracy, so it’s our calls and letters that can make a difference in how our government practices kindness toward citizens who need help.
