Letter: Help paint picture of city’s financial future
The Long-Range Financial Planning Committee needs you!
Over the last two years, I have really enjoyed working with the council’s finance committee and the mayor on issues important to long-range financial planning. As my term on the committee winds down, I wanted to identify a great opportunity to get involved.
There are so many questions to answer, and ways that you can make an impact.
How do we prioritize all of the projects we want for our community? How do we pay for those things?
How can we lower our costs to make sure we have enough money in our budget every year? Is the city’s budget sustainable over time?
The financial direction of the city is vitally important as we look toward developing the waterfront, maintaining roads, building sidewalks, and the Harbor Reach project – just to name a few.
Being a member of this important committee, you can help provide guidance on the city’s policies on financial reserving, benchmarking our revenue and expenses versus other cities, and discovering ways to decrease expenses and improve our overall financial picture.
Mukilteo has made important strides in its financial accountability recently, but there is more work to be done!
