Letter: School band can march down my street any day

May 17, 2017

The Olympic View Middle School Band marched and played past our home in Elliot Pointe on May 9.

This was our adult son’s birthday and he was staying with us for a few days to celebrate. What a great gift the music and marchers gave him. Thank you.

I take issue with the woman who recently complained about their practicing out-of-doors because the “noise” bothered her and interfered with her TV watching. She felt it necessary to complain on a Seattle news program.

These kids have worked and practiced hard to learn the skill of playing a musical instrument. This work stimulates their brains, memory, coordination and self-esteem. This positive experience develops social and team skills, responsibility, self-discipline and joy for life. They are not getting into trouble as a result of boredom.

I just wish they would march in the community more, because listening to them is fun. They also learn about other communities when traveling for parades and other performances.

Please know, OV Band members, that you are appreciated, and especially when you are outside and can be heard by this grandmother.
