Letters for week of Sept. 5
Summer outdoor movies a huge success at Rosehill
Editor, The Beacon:
The Outdoor Movies on the Plaza at the Rosehill Community Center were a huge success. The location was fabulous – the view behind the screen was gorgeous and there was lots of room for folks to sit and enjoy the show.
The weather cooperated for both movies, and even though the second night wasn’t the warmest, the plaza and amphitheater areas were filled with families. About 400 folks came out to watch “The Lorax” on Aug. 29.
Thank you Outdoor Movie sponsors:
Ivars Mukilteo Landing, JeanMarie Trapp of John L Scott, Matt Martin of State Farm, Vicki Derks Photography and Taekwondo Way!
There was free clam chowder from Ivars Mukilteo Landing, coloring pages and free popcorn from Les Schwab, coffee and cocoa from Celtic Coffee and Deli, and fun Taekwondo demonstrations from Taekwondo Way.
Gift certificates were donated as raffle prizes by Chamber members Nanda Yoga, Havoline Express Lube, Pi Plus Tutors and Domestic Violence Services New and Again Thrift Shoppe. Phil Castillo with the Bank of Washington donated a huge antique gumball machine!
We are looking forward to more family movies on the plaza next year!

A friendly reminder to our citizens
The Mukilteo School District begins classes on Sept. 5. Please be aware that children will be walking to schools and there will be a general increase in vehicle traffic around the schools with parents, teachers and buses returning to the roadways.
Mukilteo police will be performing traffic enforcement in and around the school zones to help keep the kids safe.
Speeding infraction fines double in a school zone and it is illegal to pass a school bus while the red lights are flashing.
Thanks!

Fantastic feature on Edmonds officer
Nice article profiling Cpl. Josh McClure and his police dog, Dash ["An officer and his dog: An inside look at a K-9 team," The Beacon, front page, Aug. 29]. They have been a great team. McClure is a fine dog handler.
We appreciate the good words you wrote.
Thanks!!

Chief of Police,
