Mariner earns first win by beating Cascade | Boys prep basketball

The Mariner boys basketball team earned its first win of the season by beating Cascade on Friday, Dec. 13. The Marauders won 50-45 over the Bruins.

Cascade led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter, followed by a 15-11 second to lead 28-22 at the end of the first half. Mariner outscored Cascade in both the third and fourth quarter, but trailed 36-31 at the end of the third quarter. The Marauders jumped ahead late in the game, hitting 19 points in the final minutes to overtake the Bruins lead and win the game.

Kevin Villalobos scored 17 points during the match and Andre Haghgoo added 14 overall. Ryan Mendoza scored nine points, DeRhaun Mallett scored five, Shawn Miguel scored three and Gregory Whitaker had two points.

The Marauders, now 1-0 in league and 1-4 overall this season, will host Kamiak on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 7:15 p.m.
