Mariner earns first win of the season over Lynnwood | Prep football

The Mariner football team earned it's first win of the season on Friday, Oct. 4 beating Lynnwood 46-36.

Mariner started the game with a 14 point lead in the first quarter, after touchdown by Joshua Williamson early in the game. He added his third of the night early in the second from a 45-yard run to give the Marauders a 21-0 lead.

Lynnwood's Andrew Katzenberger scored the first Royal points of the night in the second, but Williamson went on to score two more touchdowns in the second quarter, giving Mariner a 33-7 lead at halftime.

After the break, Greg Whitaker ran home a 33-yard interception return, before Lynnwood scored once in the third and once early in the fourth to make it a 40-21 game.

The Royals would add three more touchdown in the third quarter, while Mariner posted one more to end the game.

Mariner posted 387 rushing yards in the game, to Lynnwood's 242, and the Marauders added just 20 yards passing in the game. Williamson had 282 yards rushing, averaging 10.8 yards a carry. Teammate Dyonte Law had 87 yards, while earning 20 yards receiving.

Mariner will play Jackson on Friday, Oct. 11 in a 7 p.m. game at Everett Memorial Stadium. The Timberwolves, which lost last week to Kamiak, are 0-2 in league and 2-3 overall this season.
