Mariner falls 54-38 to Jackson | Prep football

The Mariner football team lost 54-38 to Jackson on Friday, Oct. 11.

Jackson started the game with 21 points in the first quarter, to Mariner’s 14.

Joshua Williamson scored the first Marauder touchdown of the night off an 8-yard run, to tie the game 7-7 early in the match. Jackson upped the score shortly there after, but Williamson found the endzone to again tie the score after a 3-yard run.

Jackson pulled away with one final touchdown in the first, to give the Timberwolves a lead going into the second quarter.

Williamson scored his third touchdown of the night, this time on a 7-yard run, but the kick failed and the Marauders trailed 21-20. Jackson added another touchdown, followed by Mariner’s Dyonte Law catching a 15-yard pass from Nick Smith. The Marauder’s two point attempt failed, and the first half ended with Mariner trailing 28-26.

Mariner’s only points of the third quarter came from a 17-yard run by Williamson, but the two point attempt failed. Jackson scored 26 points in the third quarter, while Mariner wouldn’t get to the endzone again until the fourth quarter.

Mariner’s Junius Fidow scored the final points of the night off a 24-yard pass from Smith to end the game.

Mariner is 1-2 in league this season and 1-5 overall. The Marauder’s will play Kamiak on Friday, Oct. 18 in a 7 p.m. game at Goddard field.
