Mariner rallies for win over Marysville Getchell | Boys prep basketball

The Mariner boys basketball team won a non-league match against Marysville Getchell on Saturday, Dec. 21, after the Marauders rallied from a 35-28 deficit at halftime.

Marsyville Getchell led 21-18 at the end of the first quarter, and the Chargers extended the lead by outscoring the Marauders 14-10 in the second quarter.

In the second half, the Marauders began to build their comeback, outscoring the Chargers 12-6 in the third quarter. Getchell led 41-40 after three quarters of play, but it was Mariner’s 19 point fourth quarter that guaranteed the team the win.

Mariner’s Andre Haghgoo scored 25 points during the game, while teammate Kevin Villalobos added 16 to the final score. Ryan Mendoza scored eight points, DeRhaun Mallet scored four and Gregory Whitaker, Erwin Dzeko and Tim Angelos each scored two.

The Marauders are 2-5 this season and will play Jackson on Jan. 2 after the holidays.
