Mariner senior Steinhauer dominates distance races | Track and fieldPace wins both hurdles, high jump; Mangum leads 400, 1,600 relays to wins
Mariner’s Abbie Steinhauer dominated the field during a Wesco 4A track and field meet against Jackson.
Steinauer won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 girls races and helped the Maruaders to a second-place finish in the 1,600 relay Thursday, March 30, at Goddard Stadium.
Teammate Suzy Pace captured the 100 and 300 hurdles and the high jump. Pace also was a member of the 400 relay squad that placed second.
Mariner’s Romelo Mangum won the 200 and took second in the 100 in the boys meet. Mangum also ran the anchor leg of the winning 400 relay team and was the leadoff runner for the winning 1,600 relay squad.
Teammate Danilo Openiano won the discus. Second place finishers included Richie Duangmani (400), Fernando Castaneda-Flores (800), Ignacio Garcia (shot put), Frank Blanco-Yanez (discus) and Jammie Phea (high jump).
Jackson won the boys meet 111.5-46.5, and also prevailed 110.5-40 in the girls meet.
