Mayor elected to statewide post
The board of directors of the Association of Washington Cities last week elected Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine secretary of the board.
Marine, an incumbent board member in his fifth year representing District 8, was elected on the first ballot against two opponents.
The post puts him in line for succession to the presidency of the board, Marine said.
“I’m very excited,” the mayor said. “It helps put Mukilteo ‘out there.’”
An enthusiastic ambassador for the city, Marine regularly reminds people that Money magazine last year named Mukilteo the 9th best place to live in the country.
Founded in 1933, the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) is a private, non-profit, non-partisan corporation that represents Washington's cities and towns before the state legislature, the state executive branch and with regulatory agencies.
Membership is voluntary. However, AWC consistently maintains 100 percent participation from Washington's 281 cities and towns.
The 25-member board of directors oversees the association's activities.
