Mayor helped save homeless cats’ lives | Letter

Oct 23, 2013

Editor, The Beacon:

Mayor Joe Marine was instrumental in facilitating the continuation of a cat adoption event named “Meow in Mukilteo.”   This cat adoption event has helped save many cats’ lives, since overcrowding at open shelters results in cats being euthanized.

Our mayor began helping several years ago after being approached by me for help in finding an acceptable venue for the event.  The mayor always had time to listen, and he spent a considerable amount of time helping to make the event successful.

After we could not find an acceptable private location for the event, he suggested that we rent the basement of the old Rosehill School. He then helped develop our volunteer skills, which led to fundraising and advertising efforts.

The mayor later helped to ensure the rules of the new Rosehill Community Center would allow adoption events for homeless cats and dogs to be held there.

The mayor’s help saved cats lives and made many families much happier.  His efforts to promote volunteerism and civic duty in our city are exceptional.

His ability to lead and motivate others is also demonstrated by the professionalism of our city’s staff.  I’ve had the opportunity to observe this professionalism firsthand on many occasions while helping with the cat adoption event.

I’m writing this letter today as I am very grateful to Mayor Joe Marine and hope that he is re-elected.  He has helped our city in many ways, but I am especially appreciative of how he treated me and how he helped save homeless cats’ lives.

Thanks, Mr. Mayor!
