Memorial Day ceremony to be held May 27
The Mukilteo Historical Society invites everyone to a ceremony in remembrance of those who have gone before us. The brief ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 27, at Pioneer Cemetery, 513 Webster St.
The master of ceremonies is Christopher Summitt, who will assume the persona of Jacob Fowler, one of the founders of Mukilteo and one of the first to be buried in the settlement’s new cemetery.
Summitt and his wife, Margaret, are recognized experts on the history of the city’s historic cemetery.
A selection of patriotic music will be performed by the Mukilteo Presbyterian Chuch Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Rob Coe. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2100, under the command of Donald Wischmann, will present and retire the colors.
Mukilteo’s mayor, Joe Marine, will also offer remarks during the brief ceremony.
“While the event is for everyone,”said Lisa Romo, president of the Historical Society, “we especially encourage newcomers and families to join us to enhance their ‘sense of place’ in Mukilteo, and to prepare young people for the future by deepening their understanding of the past.”
