Mukilteo family interrupts burglary
A Mukilteo family may have interrupted a burglary in their home, but not until after the unknown suspect escaped with some jewelry.
According to police, the residents returned to their home on the 10000 block of 48th Avenue West to find that a rear sliding door had been smashed open.
Two rifles had been placed near the back door, probably to be taken when the thief left. But the family had been gone less than an hour, and probably interrupted the burglary, police said.
Edmonds police and the Sheriff’s Department K9 unit helped establish a perimeter while officers searched the area for the suspect. With the police dog’s help, the suspect was tracked for several blocks, but he wasn’t located.
A rock had been thrown through the rear slider to provide access to the home. Fingerprints were lifted and will be sent for analysis and comparison, police said.
