Mukilteo has new Community Development director | City brief
Patricia Love has been appointed as Mukilteo’s new Planning and Community Development Director.
Mukilteo City Council on Feb. 18 unanimously confirmed Mayor Jennifer Gergerson’s appointment of Love to replace former director Heather McCartney, who retired last year.
“I just want you to know that I will give you everything that I have,” Love said. “I love this community, and I’m here because I want to be part of it.
“The vote of confidence you’ve given me is overwhelming.”
Love had been acting director of the Planning and Community Development Department since Jan. 1. She previously worked as the city’s assistant planning and community development director for six years.
The council changed the city’s department head hiring process on Feb. 4, so that it must approve all hires.
With the process changes, the mayor is allowed to present one candidate for confirmation if he or she has been serving as an acting director in the interim. It was Gregerson’s first appointment.
“Based on Ms. Love’s experience, tenure with the city of Mukilteo and performance, I believe her to be the most qualified individual to be appointed to the position,” Gregerson said.
Love has more than 25 years of community planning experience, including 21 with Mukilteo.
She served as an assistant, associate and senior planner before she was promoted to assistant planning and community development director.
Love has a bachelor’s degree in geography with a concentration in urban planning and a community planning certificate from the University of Washington.
She is a member of the American Planning Association, past president of the Puget Sound chapter of the APA and a Narbeck Wetland Sanctuary board member.
