Mukilteo schools say ‘thank you’ with Stuff the Bus event
Bus drivers and other staff members from the Mukilteo School District will take donations for the Mukilteo Food Bank at a “Stuff the Bus” event on Saturday, Dec. 15. The event will take place in the parking lot of the Albertson’s store at Beverly Park Road and the Mukilteo Speedway from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cindy Steigerwald, manager of the school district’s transportation department, said the event will be held as a way for the district to say “thank you” to voters for passing a recent school bus levy.
The levy, which was approved by nearly 60 percent of voters last month, will raise $3 million in 2013, which will be used to purchase about 30 new school buses during the next several years.
A recently purchased school bus will be on hand at the event so members of the community can get a close look at the kind of vehicles that will be purchased with the levy funds.
Experts also will be on hand to answer questions about school buses. The newest school buses are built to higher safety standards, have cleaner emissions, and are less expensive to operate than older buses.
“The goal of the event is to stuff our school bus with donations of canned and fresh vegetables, boxed meals, cereal, toothpaste, and other items for the Mukilteo Food Bank,” Steigerwald explained.
“We look forward to meeting members of the community and thanking them in person for their generous support of the school bus levy.”
