Mukilteo swimmers prepare for state finals | Girls prep swimming
Kamiak and Mariner swimmers are preparing for the state swimming finals on Saturday morning after qualifying in the preliminary races on Friday.
The top 16 teams or individuals in each event earned spots in the finals.
Mariner's Brianna Lucien won the 500 freestyle prelim race in 5:07.6. She had the fastest qualifying time coming into the meet at 5:06.07. Kamiak's Lyndsey Willis will also race in the 500, after finishing in 16th place with a time of 5:26.46.
Kamiak's Ingrid Straume earned a spot in the 200 freestyle finals after finishing in 14th place. Lucien also finished in eighth place to also qualify for the finals.
In the 50-yard freestyle sprint, Kamiak freshman Angeline Dovinh finished in 25th place in 25.66 seconds. The top 16 in each race qualified for the finals.
Laura Johnson, a senior at Kamiak, will swim in the 100 butterfly finals on Saturday after finishing in seventh place on Friday morning with a time of 58.90 seconds.
Dovinh finished in 17th place in the 100 freestyle race with a time of 55.87 seconds.
The Kamiak 200 freestyle relay team of Dovinh, Johnson, Haley Lasley and Straume will compete on Saturday after finishing in ninth place during the prelims with a time of 1:42.53.
The Kamiak 400 freestyle relay team of Dovinh, Johnson, Willis and Straume finished in fourth place with a time of 3:42.19 to qualify for the finals.
Straume finished the 100 breaststroke in 18th place, tied with Richland's Katie Schroder in 1:10.30.
The 4A state finals will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
