Relay For Life this weekend at Kamiak track
Hundreds of local citizens of all ages will participate this weekend in Relay For Life of Mukilteo, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It will be held at the Kamiak High School track from noon on Saturday, July 13, to 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 14.
At least one member from each of about 30 teams will be walking the track at all times. The goal is to raise $60,000.
This is the first ever Relay For Life in Mukilteo. The motto of every Relay For Life fundraiser is “Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.”
The community is invited to attend, to cheer on the walkers and donate to the American Cancer Society. Opening ceremonies, at noon on Saturday, will feature cancer survivors making the first lap around the track.
A luminaria ceremony is also scheduled for 10 p.m. on Saturday. Luminarias are white paper bags illuminated with candles, each honoring a person who has battled or is now battling cancer.
Luminarias may be purchased and personalized prior to the ceremony. The suggested donation is $5 per bag.
Closing ceremonies will begin at 8 a.m.
“We invite the community to join us as we do this,” said event co-chair Joanna Turgeon. “Relay is a fun, emotional, inspiring event, and it's also a real community-builder. We hope everyone will come see for themselves the power we have to fight back against cancer."
