The South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club has named Mariner High School senior Victoria Philp its Student of the Month for March 2017.

Philp has a 3.77 GPA and ranks 38th of 482 seniors at Mariner High School. She received a varsity letter for service in 2016, lettered on the Mariner golf team as a sophomore and received the Most Improved Award. Philp also received two Scholastic Arts Competition Silver Key Awards in 2017.

Philp said her two favorite teachers are Brent Holland, who teaches art, and Emily Schiessl, who teaches social studies.

“He listens to my ideas, helps to bring them along, and doesn’t bulldoze you,” Philp said of Holland.

Regarding Schiessl, “We’ve connected more personally, and I have someone to look up to. She’s just supportive and listens to me. She’s always there to support me.”

Outside school, Philp works at an in-home day care. She has also been involved with the International Order of Rainbow for Girls since 2010, and recently participated in a fundraising walk and helped to donate food to the homeless.

After graduation, Philp plans on attending Everett Community College, then transferring to Western Washington University to become an art teacher.
