School Board Report for July 8
During its meeting on July 8, the Mukilteo School Board did the following:
Approved a one-year contract with Sodexo America, LLC, to provide management services for the school district’s nutrition services program. The contract is renewable annually for up to four additional years.
Appointed DLR Group of Seattle to begin preliminary development work for future projects related to new elementary space needs and appointed McGranahan Architects of Tacoma to provide preliminary development work for construction and renovation projects. The firms will assist with bond planning preparations and will provide design services if a bond is passed.
Added a year to the employment contract for Superintendent Marci Larsen. Her contract now extends through the 2015-16 school year.
Heard staff reports about and discussed the following: a summary of the school district’s financial results through the third quarter of the fiscal year and the superintendent’s budget recommendation for the 2013-14 school year. The budget would include $1.1 million in enhancements that would provide professional development to support the new Common Core State Standards and a new state-mandated teacher evaluation system, additional resources for school principals to help them meet new requirements, and added funding to address increasing student needs and support services.
During the annual board retreat held prior to the regular business meeting, school board members discussed student achievement, progress of district goals, work for the coming year, the school district’s communications plan, public disclosure requirements, collective bargaining, annual policy review, board advocacy and conference planning.
