Parents can now register their children for the Mukilteo School District’s middle school and high school summer school programs, as well as for a program that will help fifth graders become prepared for middle school.

Free elementary summer school sessions for kindergarten through fourth-grade students will be by invitation only, so interested parents should contact their child’s school for additional information. The program is designed to provide basic skills instruction to students who are performing below grade level in literacy and math.

The classes for current fifth-grade students are designed for students who want to learn more about the expectations for middle school and get helpful tips for success. Parents can register their children for the free classes by June 1.

The middle school program for current sixth- through eighth-grade students will focus on building the skills in reading and math that are needed for success at the next grade. The program emphasizes engagement, the growth mindset, and making learning fun.

Parents can register their child for the free middle school program online through the school district’s website at www.mukilteo.wednet.edu. The deadline to register is June 16.

Qualified eighth-grade students also will attend classes that will focus on preparing them to attend high school. The curriculum is designed to increase student awareness of goals, High School and Beyond plans, college and career readiness, and high school requirements. Attendance is by invitation only. Parents interested in having their child attend should contact their child’s school.

The high school summer school program will include classes designed to build skills in English/language arts, language acquisition, and math. The classes are designed to help Mukilteo students who have previously taken the course and did not earn credit.

The summer school program also includes a class in Washington state history that will be available to students who have not yet met the requirement to complete that class, and a class in elite fitness for students who want to stay fit over the summer.

Online credit-recovery classes also will be available in a wide range of subjects for students who have received a failing grade in a class or no credit because of attendance issues.

The deadline to register for the high school summer school classes is June 16. Registration can be done online through the school district’s website at www.mukilteo.wednet.edu.

The Mukilteo School District’s summer school program also will include classes for non-English-speaking students that are designed to build basic communication skills. Those classes are by invitation only to students already enrolled in the school district’s English Language Learner program.

All of the summer school classes will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, from July 10 through August 4. A free breakfast and lunch will be provided and transportation will be available on limited routes. The elementary classes will be held at Odyssey Elementary School and both the middle school and high school classes will be held at Voyager Middle School.

Brochures providing details about registration for summer school are now available at Mukilteo schools. Information also is available on the school district’s website, or by calling 425-356-1210.
