Sunday hours at Rosehill changed – again | City brief
Sunday hours at Rosehill Community Center have been changed to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Starting April 1, Rosehill will move its open and closing times up by two hours, though extended rental hours on Sunday will continue to be available until 10 p.m.
Mukilteo City Council voted unanimously on Monday to make the switch from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays, as recommended by staff.
City staff, however, had also recommended that the city cut its hours on Fridays and Saturdays by two hours to reflect current visitor trends.
Some councilmembers said closing Rosehill at 7 p.m. those days could discourage residents from visiting on the weekends. Keeping it open until 9 p.m. will encourage them to hang out there, as long as they know it is open to them, they said.
“There is that public perception that it’s more for private events and not for the public,” Councilmember Chris Cook said. “Whether that’s true or not, cutting those hours could increase that perception.”
One resident said she saw a “lack of community” at the community center – and that that needs to change.
Rosehill’s hours of operation have been adjusted several times since it opened in 2011. Extended rental hours on Sundays were changed in 2012 from midnight to 11 p.m. They were again changed to 10 p.m. last year.
The community center is now open 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. A staffer is at the front counter during these times.
Extended rental hours on Fridays and Saturdays are until midnight.
