Sunday hours at Rosehill changed | City brief
Sunday closing hours at Rosehill Community Center have been changed from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Rosehill’s Sunday hours will continue to be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended rental hours now until 10 p.m. Mukilteo City Council voted unanimously on Oct. 21 to make the switch.
Renters are required to clean up starting 1 1/2 hours beforehand. With a closing time of 10 p.m., clean-up must start at 8:30 p.m.
Rosehill’s hours of operation have been adjusted a couple of times since it opened in 2011. Extended rental hours on Sundays was changed in August 2012 from midnight to 11 p.m.
The community center closes Mondays through Saturday at 9 p.m. Extended rental hours on Fridays and Saturdays are until midnight.
The city was asked to revisit Sunday hours again after renters shot off fireworks at 10:45 p.m. as the finale to a wedding, waking and scaring nearby residents. Fireworks are illegal in Mukilteo.
One resident requested that the closing hours be changed to 9 p.m., meaning clean-up would start at 7:30 p.m.
Community center staff, however, had recommended that the city keep closing hours at 11 p.m. A council vote to change the closing hours to 10:30 p.m. failed 5-1 on Oct. 9.
Without any hard data to look at, the council has agreed on Oct. 9 to wait to make a decision on whether to change hours – but they then decided to revisit the issue at the next council meeting.
Room rental statistics on Sundays are scheduled to be shared during talks on the 2014 budget in November.
