Teaching an old sweater new tricks

Jan 08, 2014

Have you ever tried to teach your old sweater how to do a new trick? It can be more hassle then you want.

On Jan. 16, for the Edmonds Third Thursday Art Walk, Stunningly Strange Gallery will host Deb Shannon and her recycled cashmere accessories. Come see the new tricks she taught some old cashmere sweaters.

Shannon has been working with textiles ever since she was little.

“I learned to crochet at age 7, knit at 25, and continue producing garments today,” Shannon said.

“My current passion is sewing with reclaimed cashmere sweaters. It is luxurious, soft, warm, and breathes indoors and out. It is addictive!”

Growing up, Shannon made her own cloths, always finding inspiration from her family.  Later in life she earned a Clothing and Textile degree, which helped her get into the garment industry.

Stunningly Strange Gallery is at 407 Main St., Edmonds. Store hours are 11-6, Tuesday through Saturday.
