Thanks to Seattle athletes for their support | Letter

Dec 04, 2013

Editor, The Beacon:

I am writing to give thanks to Dave Henderson, a former Seattle Mariner and Mariner color commentator, and former Seattle Seahawk Alonzo Mitz.

Dave recently made a $500 donation to Work Force Development Center when he heard from his friend Alonzo that the center needed Emergency Earthquake kits for our student trainees and staff.

Alonzo is a proponent of WFDC and an enthusiastic supporter of the work we do with disadvantaged teens here at our not-for-profit center.

When Alonzo heard that we were working with more students than ever this year, concurrently while opening a second site right down the street here in Mukilteo (we’re at at 11215 47th Ave. W.), he encouraged Dave to help out if he could.  And Dave readily responded to the call.

Alonzo was also responsible for making our First Annual Charity Golf Tournament in August a huge success.  He assembled a “Who’s Who” of Seattle athletes and musicians (including Nesby Glasgow, Charlie Young, Dave Henderson, Bucky Jacobson, Xola Malik and Michael Powers) to participate in the event, raising more than$19,000 for the Work Force Development Center.

We are grateful for Dave Henderson and Alonzo Mitz’s unwavering support of WFDC and wanted to share what is going on right here in Mukilteo.

Thank you,

Carmela Morelli,

Director of Student Services,

Work Force Development Center
