A Mukilteo resident has recently introduced a new website that rates how kid-friendly places are.

The Seattle-area Internet startup KidScore offers an at-a-glance rating of a places’ kid friendliness. KidScore has web and mobile versions.

Mukiltean Ali Alami, who runs the website, has used the algorithm to identify some Mukilteo places as being very kid-friendly.

Here are the 10 top places with high KidScores for Mukilteo families (Scores are rated on a 0-100 scale):

1. Mukilteo Lighthouse Park – KidScore 93

2. Ivar's Mukilteo Landing – KidScore 91

3. Diamond Knot Brewery and Alehouse – KidScore 88

4. Mukilteo Library – KidScore 88

5. Arnie's Restaurant – KidScore 87

6. Azteca Mexican Restaurant – KidScore 87

7. Patty's Egg Nest – KidScore 80

8. The Chocolate Mill & Yogurt Shoppe – KidScore 77

9. Lombardo's Pizzeria – KidScore 72

10. Cafe Soleil – KidScore 66

KidScore is owned and operated by the company Judy’s Book. The website was launched in 2012 and the mobile site in January. The idea for KidScore was inspired by WalkScore, a similar algorithm that tracks the “walkability” of locations.

“Judy's Book has a large mom audience, and from feedback from members, many were asking to call out more info on kid friendliness of eateries and activities,” Alami said. “We also wanted to do something new and unique.”

“After positive feedback, we realized that we had something more than just a feature on Judy's Book and rolled out KidScore as a separate brand. To date we're syndicating the score to over a dozen sites.”

The KidScore system aims to help busy parents determine how kid-friendly restaurants, attractions and activities, dentists, doctors, and other related businesses are.

This includes features like playrooms, changing stations, kids menus, cleanliness, products, service and attitude toward parents and children. The kid-friendly focus is on infants, toddlers, and age groups up to tweens.

Diamond Knot has allowed people under 21 inside for a total of 6 days including today and it gets an 88?  And The Chocolate Mill & Yogurt Shoppe lets kids build their own deserts with candy toppings and can only manage a 77.  Somethings broken.
