Truck strikes, injures nighttime jogger

Sep 12, 2013

An Edmonds man was injured when he was struck Monday night by a pickup truck while he was jogging along Beverly Park Road in Mukilteo.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the Toyota truck appeared to be speeding and swerved into the bike lane, striking the jogger, said Mukilteo Sgt. Cheol Kang. A blood sample was taken from the driver.

“Charges are pending the results of the blood draw,” Kang said.

The man, 23, was transported to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with multiple fractures and a possible head injury.

The driver, 33, also from Edmonds, had been seen speeding and swerving before he hit the jogger just before 11 p.m. near the intersection of Harbour Heights Drive and Beverly Park Road.

It is unclear if the man was jogging in the bike lane or on the sidewalk, Kang said.

An Edmonds drugs recognition expert is assisting Mukilteo police with the investigation.
