Volunteer, make a difference

Dec 21, 2016

Dear Editor,

Excellent idea for people to volunteer to have a healthier and happier life, while making a difference.  (‘Over 55?  Call RSVP’ in The Mukilteo Beacon, Dec. 14, 2016)

Volunteering has been a highlight of my life, from early work in a Special Education classroom to my current work with RESULTS (results.org).

RESULTS is working to end hunger and poverty in our country and globally. Thanks to modern technology, this volunteering can even be done from home if people are homebound.

This is why the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit were made permanent, keeping 16 million Americans from falling into or deeper into poverty.

The next step is to extend the Earned Income Tax Credit to working childless adults, so they are no longer taxed into poverty.

It is our voices, via calls and letters that let our representatives know what matters to us.  So, take an opportunity to volunteer and make a difference, the joy you receive in return might surprise you!
