William Blaine Garrett: 1929 – 2013
William Blaine Garrett, 84, formerly of Joliet, Ill., and Anacortes, Wash., and current resident of Naperville, Ill., passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Ill.
Bill was born July 12, 1929 in Joliet, Ill., the youngest son of William and Mabel Garrett. He graduated from Joliet Central High School in 1948 and married Betty Jean Geiss on July 17, 1949.
Bill Garrett was a devoted family man who spent his adult life working hard to support his wife and children. He worked for more than 30 years in positions of increasing responsibility at Texaco Oil Refinery in Lockport, Ill. and Anacortes, Wash.
In his younger days, he also worked several additional jobs while continuing to work full time at Texaco, including waste collector, gas station attendant and Sears deliveryman, just to name a few.
Bill retired from Texaco Oil Co. after 30 years of service in 1986. Bill enjoyed a long retirement during which he and wife Betty had the opportunity to travel.
Bill was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge in Joliet, Ill., and Anacortes, Wash. Bill enjoyed bowling and was an avid sports fan following both his Chicago teams and Seattle teams.
Bill is survived by his daughters Pattilyn Ross-Schmidt (Brad Schmidt) of Colorado Springs and Lorri Lee (Terry) Brady of Roseville, Calif.; his son Steven B. (Rita) Garrett of Naperville, Ill.; and his grandchildren Michael Scott Garrett of East Sacramento, Calif., Kathleen Nicole Ross of Colorado Springs, and Kyle Stephen Garrett and Evan Andrew Garrett of Naperville, Ill.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2014, at Spring Meadows Senior Living Facility in Naperville, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a Gift Trust Fund established for the medical expenses of his grandson, Evan Garrett, who has been battling leukemia since 2004. Memorials may be made to “Evan Garrett Gift Trust.”
